Welcome to Year 2

Your child will either be:

     a ‘Panther’, or,

a ‘Lion’,

a ‘Jaguar.’

If you would like to know more about any of the information about Reception, or you have a question or concern, please feel welcome to come and speak to Mrs Johnson (Years Leader) or Mr Matthews (Assistant Headteacher) or speak to one of the team.

Please note that all Year 2 pupils have PE on Tuesday.

Who will be working with my child?

Each class has its own teacher who is your child’s Key Worker. Part of their role is to help ensure that every child’s learning is tailored to meet their individual needs, to help the child become familiar with the setting, offer a settled relationship for the child and build a relationship with you, the parents and carers. They are also supported in this by learning teaching assistants.

This includes a school tie, black school shoes and a dark coloured outdoor coat. All items of uniform, including PE kit, must be labelled clearly with your child’s name and class.

Encourage clear speech and insist on talking in full sentences.

Re-read the RWI books sent home. Practice the speed sounds, key words and encourage reading with fluency and expression.

Spelling – Encourage your child to use ‘Fred Talk’ to sound out unfamiliar words. Give your child words to spell out to you. reward good effort at spelling things.

Writing – encourage sentence talk (not one word responses) and regular writing practice. Write down whole sentences using finger spaces and punctuation. Read back writing to check it makes sense. Buy them fancy paper and pens to use at home.

REMEMBER – Learning is fun.

Relax and Enjoy!
