The School Day

Our school is organised into nine classes with three classes in each year group. We also have a morning and afternoon nursery (with some 30 hour places).  Each class has an assigned class teacher and we have a team of higher-level teaching assistants, teaching assistants and learning support assistants who work across the school in an effort to ensure every child ‘Let’s their light shine’.

How is the School organised?

Time in School per day: 6 hours 30 minutes

Time in school per week:  32 hour and 30 minutes

Total days in School per year: 190

*Please note that children with 30 hours childcare join the reception children during their lunchtime and are required to bring their own packed lunch. Alternatively you can purchase a school dinner
 (35 hours).

Arriving to School

A typical school day at Blue Coat Infant C.E. School begins with 8.35am when the gates open. Children can come into school between 8:40 and 8:50am.

In KS1 the morning begins with the registration then usually followed by an assembly. The children have three academic lessons in the morning (Reading, English and Maths) along with a 15 minute comfort break (11:00-11.15).

Lunch

In KS1, lunch is provided to the children between the hour of 12:15pm and 1:15pm. Each week Year 1 and 2 alternate who goes first to the dining hall and who plays outside. The children are served their lunch based on what has been preselected. Children are encouraged to eat additional fruit and vegetables provided. Children are also offered bread and actively encouraged to drink water.

On the playground, a sports coach provides activities for the children to engage with. The children supervised by lunchtime staff and are encouraged to be active and play games together.

Reception have a slightly longer lunch between 11:45 and 1:00pm. During this time adults support the children with using their cutlery.

Collecting children

The school day finished at 3:10pm.

We need to know who is collecting your child at all times. If we do not recognise the adult collecting them, we will not let your child go. Please let staff know if somebody new will be collecting your child. You will need to call the office and provide a password. This is to ensure that all the children are dismissed safely.

Please greet your child with a smile….not a mobile! Staff will not release a child if the person collecting is taking a call.

Please be aware that the person collecting your child must be 14 years or over.

But I can't get there for 3:10pm.

You will need to contact a child minder or an after schools’ service who can collect your child for you. There are no facilities at school for us to care for your child once school is finished. Fit for Sport run a Breakfast and After School Club at the Junior site.  Please contact them on 07801888030 for more information.

Walsall Children’s Information Service can provide a wealth of information including after/before school care providers: 01922 653383.

If your child is not collected on time, they will be taken to the Junior school where they may incur a charge of £10 to cover the cost of childcare.

Parking

The school car park is for staff and visitors only! Where possible we encourage our children to walk. Please do not park on the double yellow lines. Parking is also regularly monitored by the council’s traffic wardens and fines will be issued if you breach the conditions.
