PSHE Consultation October 2026
Upcoming Changes to Personal, Social, Health and Economic education PSHE: Consultation 1th October 2026 - 6th November
At Blue Coat CE Federation, we are committed to providing a high-quality Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that equips children with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to thrive in today's world.
The Department for Education (DfE) keeps curriculum guidance under review to ensure that schools address the challenges and opportunities facing children and young people. In response to updated national guidance and emerging issues affecting children's wellbeing, safety and personal development, we are reviewing and updating our PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum.
The proposed changes are intended to strengthen our existing provision, ensuring that learning remains age-appropriate, inclusive and relevant to the experiences of children growing up in modern Britain.
Our school uses a carefully scheme of work to support the delivery of PSHE and RSE. This planned programme helps pupils develop knowledge and understanding around:
- Healthy friendships and respectful relationships
- Families and caring relationships
- Personal safety, including online safety
- Physical and mental wellbeing
- Puberty and growing up
- Understanding emotions and seeking help when needed
- Citizenship and living in the wider world
We believe that working in partnership with parents and carers is essential. We are therefore launching a consultation to gather your views on our PSHE and RSE curriculum and policy.
How to Take Part
We value the views of our school community and invite all parents and carers to take part in the consultation. By working together, we can ensure that our PSHE curriculum continues to meet the needs of our children and reflects both statutory requirements and the values of Blue Coat CE Federation.
You are invited to:
- Review our updated draft PSHE Policy at the bottom of this page
- View the curriculum overview for your child's year group
- Complete our Parent Consultation Microsoft Form by Friday 6th November
- Read the DFE Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education guidance
We value your feedback and would like to ensure that our curriculum reflects both statutory requirements and the needs of our school community.
Following the consultation period, the feedback received will be reviewed and presented to the Governing Body..
Why is PSHE Education Important?
There is compelling evidence that PSHE education — when taught well — helps keep children and young people safe, mentally and physically healthy and prepared for life and work. Yet there’s sometimes a lack of understanding, or a misunderstanding, of what the PSHE education curriculum actually covers, and why.
We therefore wish to share handy breakdown of the PSHE education curriculum, to highlight why it is so important for schools to address each area. It included key prevalence statistics for various issues, alongside relevant research and impact evidence to show how PSHE education can help and why all aspects of the PSHE education curriculum are there for good reason.
